Contra-
A prefix meaning opposing
-botanic
Pertaining to plants

Contrabotanic is a series of wool-based sculptures made for plant lovers without a green thumb. Handmade using a technique called needle felting, the felt plants are formed using only a single barbed needle and wool roving. The wool starts in a fluffy state but by repeatedly passing the needle through the wool the fibres tangle and become densely compacted. The result is a soft, sculptural form that is exclusively wool throughout and holds its shape. Deeply inspired by nature, each Contrabotanic piece is created in the likeness of succulent or cacti species.
